A Dangerous Bargain by J.S. Scott - Sale Blitz

The first book In The Sentinel Demon Series, a paranormal romance by NY Times and USA Today bestselling author J.S. Scott.

27 year old Kat Larson is haunted by demons. Literally. And how was she to know that there was more than one type of demon? The Evils want to destroy her soul, while billionaire Sentinel demon, Zachary Winston, claims that he wants to protect her. Kat opts for Zach’s protection…but it doesn’t come without a price. It requires a demon bargain…and what he suggests surprises poor Kat almost as much as the fact that demons really do exist. Why would the handsome billionaire want to make such an agreement with a curvy, plain redheaded woman like her?

Billionaire Zachary Winston has a mission and it’s one that he vows to complete. As a Sentinel demon, his task is to protect Kat from the Evils that will corrupt her soul. His only problem is that she is his “radiant,” the one woman who can lighten the darkness of his demon existence and be his eternal mate. Zach has to fight an internal war between man and demon as he protects Kat, not quite sure which one will win. He’s one part demon, one part man, but they both yearn for Kat’s lush, full figured body and kind, compassionate heart. As Zach becomes more and more enchanted with Kat, he’s hoping she can learn to love a lonely man/demon that’s only slightly wicked.

This paranormal romance contains graphic language, steamy love scenes, and lovable alpha males that also happen to be mythological demons.

BOOK #2 Out Now

Dr. Talia Maris had lived her entire life as a freak—a too tall, too plain, too odd woman who sees and senses the presence of otherworldly entities. A total recluse, Talia spends all of her time on her research, living a contented, quiet life with only her loyal feline companion for company. Until that sedate existence comes crashing down around her when she starts being pursued by demon Evils. And if there’s one thing she hates…it’s demons. She ditches every one of them until Sentinel demon, Drew Winston, finally wins the game of pursuit by trapping her with a deceitful, underhanded trick. Not only is she infuriated by Drew’s stunt, but when he tells her she’s his mate, Talia wonders if the too handsome, too tall, too sexy Sentinel demon needs some serious psychological help. All she wants is to get rid of Drew as quickly as possible! But the stubborn Irishman isn’t budging, and her resistance slowly crumbles as she gets pulled deeper and deeper into the world of the Sentinels by the relentless attempts of the Evils to capture her. And what is she supposed to do with Drew Winston, a Sentinel demon who would do anything, even sacrificing his own life, to protect her?

There are two things Drew Winston loves about his life: being a billionaire Sentinel demon and food. He loves having everything he wants, and he’s perfectly happy slaying Evils and rescuing unsuspecting humans, until the irritating Dr. Talia Maris evades him one time too many. Yeah…sure…maybe he was a little devious in the method he used to finally meet her face-to-face, but he ends up being the one who is actually surprised when he discovers the elusive woman is actually his mate. Worse yet, she’s being pursued by ancient Evils, and it brings every protective instinct he has to the surface, making him want to kill anything that might hurt Talia. Maybe Drew had never wanted or expected a mate of his own, but once he has Talia in his grasp, he’s determined to keep her safe and make her want to stay with him forever.

Review: The Practice Proposal by Tracy March

Description:

Liza Sutherland isn’t looking for love. Not from a charity-auction date she didn’t even bid on and especially not with Nationals first baseman Cole Collins, the guy she obsessed over as an awkward teenager. She won’t get involved with a notorious player, no matter how attractive Cole is.

Cole Collins is up for contract renegotiation, but after too many late-night parties, he’ll need some positive publicity before he can make the roster. His agent, Frank, pitches Liza as the perfect prop…only Cole didn’t account for Liza no longer being just a teenager with a crush. She’s gorgeous and smart and he’s instantly hooked.

When Frank makes Liza a deal she can’t refuse—a bet she will fall in love with Cole or a cool half mil goes to charity—the game is on. But neither bet on the real feelings that surface. Could a fake fling turn into an official forever?

My Thoughts:
I loved this one! Liza had a crush on Cole when they were teenagers but now he's a famous player both on and off the baseball field. And he plays for her father's team's rival. Charity date brings them together. There are some fun dates, cute Tweets, and lots of sweetness. of course, there are also secrets and a few surprises.  You know when so many secrets are being kept, eventually it's all going to fall apart, but it wasn't too tough to fix here. If you like a romance that's sweet and clean with minimal heartbreak, I highly recommend.

Review: Sundered by Shannon Mayer

Sundered (Nevermore Trilogy #1) by Shannon Mayer

Description:They were promised weight loss, the cure for Cancer, Parkinson’s Disease and infertility; they were promised hope.

The side effects were anything but hopeful.

Mara and Sebastian are young, in love and newlyweds. Far too soon, they will face tests to their love that most others won’t survive. Their bond strengthens with each loss, destruction and unbearable race against time. In each other, they find the will and hope to endure. Hand in hand, they will face the darkening of humanity with strength and integrity and an undeniable spirit to survive; together.

My Thoughts:
A miracle drug turns people into zombie-like beings triggering an apocalypse. This was interesting and fast-paced, I was pulled right into the story. Until the epically evil cliffhanger. Now I know why this is free. Once you read this, you NEED the next book. NOW. This was very good and I recommend it. It has romance, suspense, and zombie-like people. What's not to like? For those reviewers who said the spread of the drug and whatever else are not realistic:  It's a book about zombies. Enough said? Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to get the trilogy.

Review: Never a Mistress, No Longer a Maid by Maureen Driscoll

Never a Mistress, No Longer a Maid  (Kellington #1) by Maureen Driscoll

Description:
Caught behind enemy lines at the Battle of Waterloo, nurse Jane Wetherby is forced to seek shelter with British operative Lord Edward Kellington. After a night of passion, the two are separated. With nothing but the alias Jane used to protect her family, Lord Edward is unable to find the woman he cannot forget.

Seven years later, Jane courts scandal by serving as the unofficial surgeon in the village of Marston Vale. When Edward arrives to formalize his betrothal to a viscount's daughter in accordance with his late father's wishes, Jane has no choice but to watch the match proceed. When a threat from the past emerges, Jane must join forces with Edward to safeguard her loved ones. But at what risk to her heart?

My Thoughts:
I loved this! Jane and Ned meet under unusual circumstances and have one night together before they are separated. Since she doesn't give him her real name, he is unable to find her, though he puts a lot of effort into trying. She has her reasons for staying hidden, until seven years later when they meet accidentally. I love Jane's character because she is so strong and flouts convention in a society where women don't really have the freedom to do what they want. And Ned is very sweet, even if he doesn't always seem to make the right choice. A steamy Regency romance with a secret baby and a second chance at romance. So many things to love about this book. The author is currently working on the fifth book in the series and I can't wait to catch up on the Kellingtons.

Review: The Goldenwealth Light by Scott McCloskey

The Goldenwealth Light (The Traveler of Ord, Book 1) by Scott McCloskey

Description:
Rather than being a hero with the fate of an entire world on his shoulders, Theodore Ellsworth spends his miserable days suffering merciless humiliation at the hands of prep-school bullies. It just so happens that an ancient prophecy, a shimmering city, and a herd of six-legged horses are about to change all that.

When a mysterious book transports Theo and his overachieving little sister Marie to a world full of wonders that defy anything he's ever read about before, Theo finds himself accused of a crime he didn't commit that carries the ultimate penalty. A reluctant princess, a winged gnome, and a hot-tempered young sorceress are there to help, but will they be enough to prove to an arrogant knight and thousands of fanatical citizens that the Ellsworth children aren't an evil that must be destroyed?

Told in the tradition of classics like The Chronicles of Narnia and The Neverending Story, The Goldenwealth Light is the first book in a fun-filled romp through the unique realm of the Traveler of Ord, weaving high adventure and deadly intrigue in a fanciful tapestry that will keep readers from ages ten to adult turning pages for hours.

My Thoughts:
This is a fantastic middle grade/YA fantasy/adventure story, but fun for adults, too. There are fantastic new creatures, magic, and a wonderful new world to explore. The pace is great and the characters are wonderfully drawn. I was engrossed in the book and I can't wait for the next. I recommend this for anyone who enjoys a good fantasy adventure.

Review: Curious Anomalies by Ryan Sean O'Reilly

Curious Anomalies by Ryan Sean O'Reilly

Description:
Rick Silvano, an anxious young geneticist, has gotten himself entangled with a violent, South American, drug-lord named Diego Peres. Rick’s talents have been enlisted by Peres to create genetically enhanced watchdogs, by combining common moustache bats with Africanized honeybees. Everything has gone smoothly for the last three years until now, the night before Peres is due to inspect his investment. Clive Pinkerman, who hosts a late-night, radio conspiracy show, announces on-air that he is going to break into the genetic laboratory to uncover a massive alien conspiracy he believes is housed there. Suddenly, Rick must juggle his time between stopping Clive, and making sure the experiment works so that the temperamental Peres will not be displeased.

My Thoughts:

A cool little story about what happens when you mess around with nature. The author did a great job of building up the suspense. Bats creep me out anyway. I may have nightmares now. A fun, creepy, short read.

Review: Hidden Intent by Anne M. Carpenter

Hidden Intent by Anne M. Carpenter

Description:
A secluded heiress makes a devastating discovery in her Connecticut seaside home.  Suddenly, her husband's recent distance takes on a more sinister bite.  Will his hidden intent destroy her future, or is revenge on the plate?
(a short story at 4000 words)

My Thoughts:
I was hooked from the first page. The story grabbed my interest, held my interest, and had a great twist at the end. I don't read a lot of short stories but I loved this. Even though it was short (I read it in under 30 minutes) it was packed with suspense and was a complete story.

Review: Dark Waters by Shannon Mayer

Dark Waters (Celtic Legacy #1) by Shannon Mayer

Description:
The bond between sisters is stretched to the limit as they are thrown into the world of the Fae. As they learn their places in this new world, secrets and dangers from the past emerge setting them on a dangerous path; one that would see them face off not as sisters, but enemies. Add in a wicked love triangle and you have the start of a new twist on classic Irish lore.

My Thoughts:
Great series beginning. There is lots of action and the story moves very quickly. As Quinn is learning about her heritage and a world she never knew existed, we are learning, too. There is a lot of information. The romance angle seemed a bit rushed to me. Maybe there will be more of an explanation for that in the next book. I am looking forward to reading more.

Review: Dysfunctional Romance! by Derick Hudson

Dysfunctional Romance! by Derick Hudson

Description:
Barry Shaws’s whirlwind journey through life was shaped by the growing demands of a multitude of disorders, which meant he tended to clean things repeatedly and aggressively, before they had the chance to murder him!

Barry thrived on routine. If it hadn’t happened before, it was unlikely to happen ever…until he collided into her that is. On that fateful day, as he walked to work, stepping from the centre of one pavement stone to the next, he crashed into Sandra Wiggins, who had also been discreetly avoiding the dreaded cracks. It was lust at first sight. Love would have to wait. Apart, they were just weird, but together, they were pure mental!

This is the bittersweet, often hillarious story of two human lovebirds, destined to spend their calamitous lives together…until something extraordinary occurs that threatens to decimate what remains of their limited sanity. Welcome to the New World Order, created when Barry met his Miss. Match!

My Thoughts:
Fun RomCom. I love stories with unconventional meetings. Barry and Sandra meet when they collide while both trying to avoid the cracks in the pavement. Although they have both had problems with relationships in the past due to their quirks, they just seem to get one another. They face all sorts of crazy situations together and just make it work. The humor is a bit on the vulgar side, but completely hilarious. Just a fun read.

Review: '59 by Anthony Sunderland

'59 by Anthony Sunderland

Description:
January 24th 2059: The exploration ships Intrepid and Valiant set sail on the first mission to Proxima Centauri. Finally the stars were within our reach. We would step out onto unexplored worlds, in our quest to reach out into the galaxy in search of exciting discoveries and new life.
Mission Commander Donald Lewis promised his daughter Janine that he would return from the nineteen month mission in plenty of time for her twenty first birthday.

He never came home.

Janine vowed to discover her father's fate, no matter what it might cost her. This is a quest that will test young Janine's courage and resolve to their very limits. A journey fraught with massive obstacles and terrible dangers at every turn.

This is the first instalment in the epic series '59.

My Thoughts:
'59 is the first in a sci-fi series about humans exploring beyond our own solar system.
The premise is interesting but the story is very short. It is basically a set-up the for the series. Lots of points are introduced but not developed. There is no resolution. It was difficult to really get invested in the story and characters. I also noticed that the tense shifts between past and present for no apparent reason, which I found distracting.
This was a quick read and interesting enough for me to want to read the next book to find out where it goes. It does sound intriguing. If you are a fan of sci-fi space stories, I recommend it, but prepare to keep reading because this one does not stand alone.

Review: Satin Pleasures by Karen Docter

Satin Pleasures by Karen Docter

Description:
Dan McDonald walked away from the American dream, a life full of money, glamorous women and power. Now nothing can lure him back into the corporate death trap. Except….

Dan’s scheming aunt snares him into opening a lingerie shop in Tess Emory’s shopping mall. Tess is everything Dan has vowed to avoid…sexy, smart, and obsessed with work.

Tess is determined to make her life a success and right the wrongs of her past, no matter the cost.

They’re both going to discover that true love breaks all their rules.

My Thoughts:
Satin Pleasures is a sweet, steamy, and fun contemporary romance. She works too hard. He used to work too hard and has learned his lesson. They know a relationship won't work, but there is a very strong attraction, right from the beginning. They think they won't see each other again, but it turns out the store he owns is in her mall. So how are they supposed to fight the attraction when they have to see one another on a regular basis?  This is a great story. There are some fun situations, including how they meet, and great banter. I am a sucker for great banter.  Check out the sample on the author's website.

Review: Bad Medicine by J.D. Faver

Bad Medicine by J.D. Faver

Description:
Unable to escape her past, Chloe Palmer returns to the Texas coast for her murdered father’s funeral and to face Rafael Solis, the man she left behind. Rafael never gave up hoping for Chloe’s return. She inherits her father’s shrimp boat and irascible crew, enabling her to make a living. Rafael’s passion breaks down her emotional barriers, but her impetuous nature draws her into a cruel vortex where she runs afoul of old and new enemies. Previous rivalries emerge, pitting Rafael against the heir-apparent to a crime dynasty. With the body count rising, Rafael and Chloe battle an infatuated but vicious drug lord, kidnappers, and a twisted curandero (Mexican healer). Will they survive the violence and be able to forge a life together?

My Thoughts:
When Chloe comes back to town for her father's funeral, she and Rafael pick up where they left off. At first, I wasn't sure what to think of Chloe, but started to understand her more as her story came out. Rafael is such a sweet guy. He still loves her, even though she left him years ago. He is also investigating her father's murder. This is a sweet second-chance romance blended with murder and suspense. A fantastic combination.

Review: Land of the Noonday Sun by Carmen DeSousa

Land of the Noonday Sun by Carmen DeSousa

Description:
When two strangers have nothing left but their dreams, they must forge a relationship in Nantahala, North Carolina, a small town known as Land of the Noonday Sun.

Cassandra is the beautiful, yet analytical daughter of a wealthy attorney. Destined to follow in her father’s footsteps, her life of privilege suddenly shatters, and she finds herself with no home, career, or money. A glimmer of hope arrives in a letter from the grave promising a happier existence. Cassandra stands to inherit over half a million dollars if she can live in the sleepy little town of Nantahala for six months. Falling in love, however, was not part of the deal, and without warning, she finds herself fighting for two lives.

A man with a traumatic past is able to turn his life around and is happy with his chosen career as a whitewater guide. Everything changes though when fate hurls a woman into his path. His carefree life is in turmoil, and his former weaknesses threaten to overtake him. Will he be strong enough when tragedy strikes and is once again in danger of losing everything he loves?

My Thoughts:
I loved this one. I think it has a lot to do with the characters. Carmen DeSousa may be incapable of writing a hero that doesn't make me melt. Chad is so sweet. He is not without flaws, but who is? He and Cassie have both had a rough time in the past, but find one another under rather unusual circumstances. And then, just when everything is going great...well, I don't want to ruin it. But there is suspense as well and it will have you turning pages to find out what will happen next.
There is a fun little surprise tucked inside the story for those who have read She Belongs to Me, but if you haven't, you won't be missing anything. I recommend this book for all fans of sweet romance and page-turning suspense.

Review: Bluewater Killer

Bluewater Killer by C.L.R. Dougherty

Description:
A peaceful journey under sail on a classic yacht turns into a gut-wrenching nightmare for a beautiful, manipulative, and not-so-innocent young woman.

A distraught father enlists the aid of some shady characters from his past to find out what happened to his footloose daughter.

Mike Reilly's escape from his horrific past to the soothing environment of Caribbean yachting comes with some baggage.

My Thoughts:
This is an exciting thriller that pulls you right along from the first page. There are mysteries and twists that you don't see coming. The plot and characters are interesting and keep you reading. I was left with some questions and wonder if they will be answered in the next book. Either way, Bluewater Vengeance is out now and it is on my to-read list.
