Review: Just Say Maybe by Tracy March

Description:
Award-winning author Tracy March follows up Should’ve Said No (“Wonderfully quirky . . . a pleasure to read!”—Laura Drewry) with this enchanting novel set in Thistle Bend, Colorado, a magical place where old wrongs are righted, and adventure leads to true love.

Real estate lawyer Holly Birdsong’s hike in the Rockies takes an unexpected turn when a smokin’-hot stranger tumbles off his bike and into her path. Turns out he’s purchasing the abandoned Lodge at Wild Rose Ridge, and Holly agrees to take him on as a client—despite her family’s traumatic history with the previous owner, who shamelessly abused the town’s goodwill at every turn. But when their professional relationship turns personal, Holly must reconcile the past with her hopes for the future.

Adding the rustic lodge to his portfolio of adventure properties isn’t just a business decision for Bryce Bennett. The rugged mountains also offer a killer setting for his extreme-sports camps for at-risk teens. What’s not in the blueprints is finding a kindred spirit in his irresistible lawyer, even if she seems apprehensive about getting involved in the deal. Bryce’s plan to ease her mind just might work, as long as no one discovers his secret. Yet he can’t stand hiding the truth from the woman who makes him want to build something permanent: a happily ever after.

My Thoughts:
I loved the first Thistle Bend book, Should've Said No. I enjoyed this one just as much. Holly is a real estate lawyer in Thistle Bend. Bryce is in town because he is planning to buy and restore the lodge. They meet while hiking and sparks fly but she has a rule not to get involved with tourists because she loves it there and won't leave. I love Holly and Bryce, as well as the quirky characters in town. There is a mystery here that Bryce and Holly need to solve. The romance is great and the story really moves along. I loved it from beginning to end.

Review: Girl Three by Tracy March

Description:
Bioethicist Jessica Croft, estranged daughter of a federal judge, has avoided the players, power, and passions of Washington, DC. But when her sister Sam’s suspicious death is classified as natural, Jessie resolves to expose Sam’s murderer. Pursuing elite suspects on both sides of the stem-cell-research debate leads her to security consultant Michael Gillette, who seems to know more about Sam than he’s let on.

Michael has a vested interest in Jessie’s plight. Her sister died on his watch—while he wasn’t watching. His plan to find her murderer becomes complicated when Jessie’s father hires him to protect Jessie, and his interest turns from professional…to romantic.

Together Jessie and Michael must unravel a mystery rife with political agendas and deceit. When confidential papers reveal a fertility scandal surrounding the enigmatic Girl Three, the two realize the danger of exposing the truth. Who is Girl Three? And will the murderer kill again to keep a secret?

My Thoughts:
I loved this one. I was drawn in from the first page. When Jessie finds out her sister is murdered, she needs to find out what is going on. She ends up finding out more than she bargained for. She is trying to find out who killed her sister while at the same time, so is Michael, who has been hired to watch her without her knowledge. A big city thriller with political secrets. This one kept me guessing to the very end. An excellent read.

Review: Should've Said No by Tracy March

Description:
Welcome to Thistle Bend! Perfect for fans of Susan Mallery, this charming series debut introduces a small town where old secrets are revealed—and wounded hearts are opened to new love.

A year after being laid off from the Smithsonian, Lindsey Simms says yes to a job offer as curator of a heritage museum in Thistle Bend, Colorado (population 1,519). It could be worse—and it is. Because the new museum has escalated a dispute between the Karlssons, Lindsey’s relatives, and the Crenshaws, a blood feud which goes way back to a land deal that changed the fortunes of both families. Trying to stay objective, Lindsey can’t tell anyone about her conflict of interest—especially not the ruggedly handsome handyman fixing up her cabin, who seems to be keeping secrets of his own.

Although he’s the executive director of the family trust and one of Colorado’s most eligible bachelors, Carden Crenshaw prefers getting his hands dirty in town and on his sprawling ranch. Staying busy has given him an excuse not to risk heartbreak, but getting to know the beautiful “museum lady” makes him reconsider. Little does he know, the heat between them will only add fuel to the fire—unless this unlikely couple can prove they’re lovers, not fighters.

My Thoughts:
Lindsey is new in the small town of Thistle Bend. She has come for a new job, but there is more to it than she expected. Meets Carden right away and there is an instant attraction that they both try to fight. Both are reminded of past mistakes and don't want to make them again. I loved this. The characters are great and the story is sweet and romantic. I loved reading about their dates. There is also a bit of mystery as Lindsey tries to do her job. I recommend this one for lovers of sweet romance.

My Weekend in Readers' Heaven (a.k.a. Barbara Vey Reader Appreciation)- with a #Giveaway

This past weekend I attended Barbara Vey's Reader Appreciation Luncheon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This is an annual even that brings together readers and authors from all over and it just happens to be in my neck of the woods! I have to admit that an evening at home with a book is more my speed. Going up to complete strangers and striking up a conversation is way out of my comfort zone, but I had a blast anyway. :) This was my second time attending. Last year I just drove down for the day but this year they added some events on Saturday so I grabbed the husband and we made a weekend out of it.

Friday night was a Q&A with all of the authors that were there. They are a fun and sassy bunch. Each author had a chance to introduce themselves and what they write, then they chose a random question to answer. There were a couple of awkward questions, but they handled it well. it was a fun time. Even the husband was entertained.

Following the Q&A the WisRWA had a signing. I had heard about it a few days previously, but didn't know who was going to be there. Mary Ann Rivers was there. I've read and reviewed several of her books and was happy to see her and talk to her a bit. I spoke to a few new authors and have some books added to my TBR list. They had a board set up to help you find your next book boyfriend that I thought was fun and clever. Underneath the description were book covers with heroes that fit the category.

Saturday was the big luncheon. Before the luncheon there were raffle baskets. All proceeds went to the American Cancer society. There were at least 100 baskets. It was impressive. They raised over $10,000!

At the luncheon itself, sixty-one authors had tables and ate lunch and chatted with their readers. The authors go all out on the table decorations and favors. My husband and I sat at Tracy March's table. I met her last year and she was very nice. I have read and reviewed a couple of her books. She gave us some great favors and even signed a book for me to give away to one of my readers! It was fun chatting with her and the others at our table. This was probably my favorite part of the weekend.

Our table.

Our take-home goodies.

Like our photo-bomber? ;)

Eloisa James gave the welcome. She encouraged us to try new genres and new authors. She reminded us that authors need reviews, good or bad.

Kristan Higgins was the birthday princess. It was her 50th and we all sang happy birthday. She wore a tiara.

During the luncheon were door prize baskets from each author. They introduced themselves and what was in the basket they brought. Then they drew a winner.

Tess Gerritsen was the keynote speaker. She talked about meeting Stephen King and joking about where they get there ideas because that's the question that readers always ask. She talked about where she gets her ideas and where to look for ideas.

After the luncheon was the signing, which was free and open to the public. An introvert's worst nightmare, there were throngs of people clogging the hallway, making it difficult to move. But this was a fun, polite group of people and we all made it work. It was so fun to be able to chat with the authors that write the books that we love. I was a little starstruck, as I was last year. Husband carried my books and helped me get them signed. Most of the authors were stuck behind their tables, making it difficult to ask for pictures, so I didn't get as many as I did last year. Sorry, authors, if I didn't talk to you. I probably wasn't sure what to say. This is my socializing for the year.

The hallway where the signing took place.

Sherrilyn Kenyon
Her line was incredibly long but she took the time to shake each person's hand and chat a little while signing books, even graciously posing for pictures.

Valerie Bowman, who writes "Racy Regency Romps."  Her latest The Unlikely Lady is on my Netgalley list. :)

Cherry Adair
I told her I loved the character Teal in Undertow. She said it was fun to write a character so unlike herself. Bad hair, bad shoes, bad clothes. The only similarity was the bad attitude. I bought a copy of Blush after she told me there was a hit man and "things happen." Who can resist that description? She's a hoot.

Tina DiSalvo and other authors doing their thing.

Tracy March

Nancy Naigle
Another author whose latest, Life After Perfect, is on my Netgalley list.

Eloisa James
She seriously has the best swag. My 6 year old likes to confiscate it.  Eloisa told me to tell her hi. :) Also, when I told her I thought her books were getting better, she said good because they were getting harder to write.

Sharon Sala
Signing my copy of 'Til Death.

Tonya Kappes
Signing my copy of A Charming Cure. I met her last year. She's a sweetheart.

Kristan Higgins
Sadly Facebook no longer allows her and Jill Shalvis to have Man Wars. She's still fun to follow.

Tess Gerritsen
She was a brilliant speaker and so nice to talk to.

After the signing there was a pizza party followed by popcorn and a movie hosted by Tina DiSalvo and Cherry Adair.
Cherry Adair was handing out boas. When she told my husband he had to wear one, he said sure, as long as he could get a picture with her.

There were decorations and prizes.
Popcorn.

Our hosts, Cherry Adair and Tina DiSalvo. The movie was Mama Mia. Singing and dancing were involved.

I was exhausted when the event was over and needed to recharge, but I can't wait until August 1 to sign up for next year!

And that was the weekend in a nutshell. If you made it this far, you deserve a reward. I will be giving away 5 books, as well as a goodie bag filled with swag. There may even be codes for some free ebooks in there. To enter, leave a comment or enter the Rafflecopter. Which prize would you most like to win? Review: The Practice Proposal by Tracy March

Description:

Liza Sutherland isn’t looking for love. Not from a charity-auction date she didn’t even bid on and especially not with Nationals first baseman Cole Collins, the guy she obsessed over as an awkward teenager. She won’t get involved with a notorious player, no matter how attractive Cole is.

Cole Collins is up for contract renegotiation, but after too many late-night parties, he’ll need some positive publicity before he can make the roster. His agent, Frank, pitches Liza as the perfect prop…only Cole didn’t account for Liza no longer being just a teenager with a crush. She’s gorgeous and smart and he’s instantly hooked.

When Frank makes Liza a deal she can’t refuse—a bet she will fall in love with Cole or a cool half mil goes to charity—the game is on. But neither bet on the real feelings that surface. Could a fake fling turn into an official forever?

My Thoughts:
I loved this one! Liza had a crush on Cole when they were teenagers but now he's a famous player both on and off the baseball field. And he plays for her father's team's rival. Charity date brings them together. There are some fun dates, cute Tweets, and lots of sweetness. of course, there are also secrets and a few surprises.  You know when so many secrets are being kept, eventually it's all going to fall apart, but it wasn't too tough to fix here. If you like a romance that's sweet and clean with minimal heartbreak, I highly recommend.

Review: A Shot of Red by Tracy March

Description:
After fleeing DC following a one-night stand that had her reeling, biotech company heiress Mia Moncure has thrived working with a humanitarian aid team administering vaccines in Haiti. When the United States is threatened with a flu epidemic, Mia’s grandmother demands her return to unveil a new flu vaccine for Moncure Therapeutics. She arrives to find that her ex-boyfriend, the company’s PR Director, has died in a suspicious accident in Switzerland that Mia soon suspects was murder.

Determined to reveal a killer, Mia heads to Switzerland where she’s threatened as she discovers a plan to infiltrate the vaccine for nefarious purposes. Desperate for backup, she turns to sexy Gio Lorenzo, Communications Director for her mother, a high-ranking senator—and Mia’s one-night stand. While negotiating their rocky relationship, they race to uncover a deadly scheme that could ruin her family’s reputation. But millions of people are being vaccinated, and there’s more than her family’s legacy at stake. Mia and Gio struggle to discover the truth about the scheme and their feelings for each other, but it just might be too late.

My Thoughts:
I picked this up after meeting the author and was finally able to read it. I loved it. I was pulled in right away. Mia is in Haiti giving out flu vaccines when she is called back to the U.S. because her family owns the company that handles the vaccines and they are having issues. There is the medical angle and politics, secrets and betrayal. And then there is Gio, the one-night stand that she ran away from but can't stop thinking about. A perfect blend of romance and suspense. I couldn't put it down and then I was sad when it was over. The ending totally blew me away and I didn't see coming. A definite must-read for romantic suspense fans.
