Review: Chocolate Covered Billionaire Navy SEAL by Luke Young

Chocolate Covered Billionaire Navy SEAL by Luke Young

Description:
Heir to a chocolate empire, Brock Fullman joins the elite Navy SEAL team in order to avenge the death of his high school sweetheart. With his billionaire family one bad day in the stock market away from the dreaded "Mm Mm Mm..." word (Yes Millionaire... he's the only family member who can actually say it), he's torn between the woman he must marry to guarantee his family's future and the new woman he secretly loves. Out for revenge, will he destroy the company, his family, himself and all those around him in the process?

Chocolate Covered Billionaire Navy SEAL is a short story (approximately 18,000 words) and falls somewhere in genre between a romantic comedy and contemporary romance parody.

The "SEALionaire" is sometimes off-the-wall absurd, sometimes steamy, but always funny. It contains explicit language, sexual content, features a hot, rich, let's call him unique, military man, a bitch we love to hate, lots of chocolate (some might argue too much) and a handful of not so bright terrorists. It's intended for mature audiences and a complete work with none of those pesky cliffhangers!

**Please also note that 20% of the proceeds from the sale of this book, through the end of 2013, will be donated to charities whose mission it is to help military families.

My Thoughts:
A quick, fun read. The hero is a billionaire and a part-time Navy SEAL who has ten-pack abs (and other parts of his anatomy are equally impressive). He is supposed to marry a woman he doesn't really like for the sake of his family, yet there is another woman he is interested in. The romance genre is so easy to make fun of and this short story does a wonderful job of it. I couldn't help but laugh out loud. Very entertaining. Don't forget to read the author's note. It explains how the story came together.

Review: Tide's Ebb by Alexandra Brenton

Tide's Ebb by Alexandra Brenton

Description:
Sassy Manhattan lawyer Marianna Holt has the perfect life and the ideal fiancé. But a shocking bedroom revelation shatters her limits, her confidence, and her world. When her law firm sends her out of New York for the first time, Marianna feels lost at sea.

Life-long Rhode Islander Captain Lawrence doesn’t need high-maintenance city women or a last name. When the gruff sea captain saves Marianna from drowning, he knows he’s in over his head. The head-strong odd couple shares only two things: a deep dislike of each other, and an undeniable attraction. Sparks fly, but will they catch fire at sea?

My Thoughts:
This is satire. If you read this thinking it is going to be a romance, you are going to be disappointed. This is a parody of a romance, poking fun at romance novels and cliches, lawyers, and other things. The main character, Marianna is quite selfish and shallow and spends an inordinate amount of time paying attention to commas and quotation marks as a lawer. This is what tipped me off that that this wasn't a typical romance. There is quite a bit of crude, off-color humor. This book won't appeal to everyone, but if you can appreciate the humor, give it a shot. It is very well written and quite funny.
