Review: Unforgiving Plains by Christine Steendam

Description:
Rayna Fields is a successful realtor in Calgary, but when she receives a visit from a lawyer, her whole life is turned upside down.

She hasn’t seen or heard from her father in twenty years. Not since her mother packed her and their belongings in a truck and drove off Fieldstone Ranch. Now, she has to make her way to Foremost, Alberta, the “wild west” of Canada and deal with the dilapidated ranch that was left to her by her estranged father.

Struggling with her feelings towards her father who has passed on, a ranch in financial distress, and other problems that crop up along the way, Rayna turns to the one person willing to help; Vince, the hired hand. But will his past destroy everything she’s worked towards? And will she be able to forgive, and find beauty in Alberta’s wild plains?

My Thoughts:
Rayna is a city girl who has issues with men from her father having nothing to do with her since she was 5. Now she finds out that he left her his ranch. She shows up planning to sell it.. She doesn't plan to fall in love, with the ranch or the ranch hand.Vince has been working at the ranch for three years and doesn't know where he will go when Rayna sells. I just loved the writing and the characters. I couldn't stop reading. There were financial issues and cattle rustlers as well as personal issues for each of them to deal with. I liked the peek at ranch life. This is a lovely, clean romance that I very much enjoyed.

Review: Heart Like an Ocean by Christine Steendam

Heart Like an Ocean by Christine Steendam

Description:
In a society where she doesn't belong, Senona Montez, a strong-willed and free-spirited woman refuses to follow the path expected of a Don's only child.

On the eve of her marriage to a stranger, she saddles her horse and flees everything she knows, only to discover the petty concerns of society did not prepare her for the harsh life on the open sea. She finds an unlikely protector in a reckless privateer, Brant Foxton.

Straddling the worlds of independence and privilege in 1600's Europe, this captivating man challenges her in ways she never thought possible, shows her what living to the fullest really means, and allows her to follow her heart wherever it leads.

My Thoughts:
I loved this book so much. It is Senona's story, her journey. She is a great character. Strong, brave, intelligent. She makes some choices that others don't agree with, but she does what is best for herself, and she grows a lot over the course of the book. All of the characters are very human. Add to that the unexpected twists in the story and you get a book that I couldn't put down. It is quite a ride and you just have to hold on and have faith that things will work out the way they should. The ending was very satisfying. I definitely recommend this one.
