Review: My Wholly Heartbreaking Heretic by Danielle Peterson

My Wholly Heartbreaking Heretic (The Duck and the Doe #2) by Danielle Peterson

Description:
This follow-up novella to the critically acclaimed Our Blissful Bayou Beginnings is set in the American West in the 1970s against a backdrop of a counterculture spiritual movement. RĂ©mi is attempting to live quietly as a tradesman in Arizona, but his peaceful respite is soon ended when Bichette forces her way back into his life. Against his better judgment he accepts a quest from her and soon he finds himself searching not just for a man foolish enough to cross his temperamental immortal beloved, but searching through Bichette’s own past and secrets as well.

My Thoughts:
This is the second volume in the Duck and Doe novella series. Volume 1, Our Blissful Bayou Beginnings, shows how their relationship began and how they became immortal.  Written from Remi's point of view in the style of a memoir, this series is funny, sweet, heartbreaking, and shocking. It explores the question: what if you really had an eternity to spend with someone? These two have and on-again, off-again love/hate relationship spanning centuries. A love story, but not a romance. Volume two continues their story with events that occurred in the 1970's. An entertaining read.
