Review: Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Allegiant (Divergent #3) by Veronica Roth

Description:
One choice will define you.

What if your whole world was a lie?
What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything?
What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?

The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

Told from a riveting dual perspective, Allegiant, by #1 New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth, brings the Divergent series to a powerful conclusion while revealing the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.

My Thoughts:
Going to try to keep this spoiler-free as usual, but it is so hard for this one. I do wish I had done a quick re-read of the first two so that I had the details fresh in my mind. This book jumps right in where the last left off and it had been a while since I had read it.

I was not emotionally prepared for this book. I've had some time now to process and come to terms with it.

So by now I'm sure you know that this book doesn't end the way most of us expected, wanted, and/or hoped. That's okay. I'm always happy when an author stays true to their vision of a story and doesn't cave to the pressure of their fans. Sometimes an author is like a parent. They give us what we need instead of what we want. We end up getting what's good for us, even if we get mad about it.

This is a very powerful story and it was worth reading, even if it took me a few days to recover. If you haven't read it yet but plan to, just be prepared and be brave.

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I only read the first one when it first came out and have been thinking of doing a read of the whole series, starting back with Divergent. But, I've seen so many crazy things with people all hating on Roth, that I was a little worried about that.

    1. I would start back with Divergent as well. Definitely worth reading the whole series. People just get mad when things don't go the way they want sometimes. :)
