Selling Out (The Lost Girls #2) by Amber Lin
Description:
Shelly Laurent escapes her life as a high-class escort, but against her better judgment she takes the scared young Ella with her. Framed for murder by her pimp and his dirty cops in retaliation, Shelly turns to the one man who could be her salvation: Detective Luke Cameron. She doesn’t know if she can trust him or if he’s just a mirage, but it's time for her to take a stand. Just one shot, make it count, she’ll fight Ella’s demons—and face her own.
Shelly throws light on the shadows of Chicago’s underworld, challenging everything she knew and the man she’s come to love. Together, a prostitute and a cop fight for truth stronger than secrets, hope deeper than deception, and a bond more enduring than betrayal.
My Thoughts:
After reading Giving It Up (review here) I wanted to know more about Shelly and was glad that she got her own story. I was so sad for most of this book. Shelly is not in a good place emotionally. She is trying to get out of "the life" as she calls it, but it is not easy. She wants to be with Luke, but doesn't think she really deserves him anyway. She has so many obstacles and Luke has some secrets of his own. They don't have an easy path and this is a very dark book, dealing with some heavy subjects. There are some lighter moments as well. Shelly is very sarcastic and funny. I highly recommend this one if you like your romance dark and gritty and angsty, with suspense and all sorts of steam.
My Rating: *****
Steam Factor: !!!!!
*Notes: Pretty intense with dark subject matter and lots of adult language.
