Review: Stubborn Hearts by Carol Ritten Smith

Stubborn Hearts by Carol Ritten Smith

Description:

Beth Patterson and her two younger brothers are hiding from the law in the small town of Whistle Creek. Beth is committed to keeping her family together and she will do anything to ensure it. Anything.

When her youngest brother befriends Tom Carver, the local blacksmith, Beth worries the truth will fly out of the six-year-old’s mouth faster than he can spit a watermelon seed.

Surprisingly, it isn’t the boy who invites Tom’s suspicion. It’s Beth herself, the night he catches her snooping around in his barn with an excuse so ridiculous it prompts him to wonder just what she is up to.

Intrigued, he takes it upon himself to find out. But instead of unravelling the secret, Tom becomes entangled in their everyday lives. Beth knows the danger of letting her guard down and soon she faces the most crucial and heart wrenching dilemma of her life.

Is Tom’s love strong enough to forgive her of her one felonious deed…or…will he condemn her?

My Thoughts:
This was a great western historical romance. I wanted to dislike Tom for being so cocky, but it ended up being endearing. Beth is a strong, stubborn character who just wants to protect her family. They don't get along at first and it is fun to watch them butt heads. I was swept up in their story and had to keep reading until I knew how things would work out. A lovely, sweet romance that made me laugh at times and also had me in suspense.

  1. Great premise, Carol. I love the fact that your heroine is one step ahead of the law, and your hero suspects it. Conflict, conflict, conflict! May you have many, many sales!
