Review: Consequences (Chronicles of M Book 4) by Nicholas Forristal

Description:
Roughly ten years have gone by since the death of A'loc and the unexpected public demonstration from M and Thomas. M, now a minor TV celebrity, is finding out there's more to being a star than just fans and with every turn a new danger lurks. New, blood thirsty mutants attack M at every chance, strange investigations in other countries and a psychopathic mass murderer are just a few examples.

Who are the BLB and why are they so intent on killing M? Why has nothing happened with the Lords and who, or what is a Domitianus? There's never a dull day in the life of M.

My Thoughts:
M on a talk show. I was hooked right there. I have enjoyed this series and this book is no exception. There are new and interesting characters, as well as old favorites. This book has Thomas, magic, zombies, Mai and Oni, and a five man midget death squad from Scotland. It is not necessary to have read the other books, but I recommend it. And this one is definitely not the end. There is death, mayhem, action, and humor. It was a fun read and I'm looking forward to book 5.

Review: Hitori by Nicholas Forristal

Hitori by Nicholas Forristal

Description:
In the 8th century, Bishamon, Japanese god of war sends his initiate back to Earth. She is to prove her worth by doing the job that she has trained so long for, to defend Japan and its people from the evils of the world. This is her story.

My Thoughts:
I loved this. It is a fast-paced, historical fantasy adventure story with lots of action and mythical creatures. A well-told story that really puts you in the time period, without bogging you down with too many details. A great story if you haven't read Chronicles of M. But if you have, it gives you some background on a certain strange warrior woman who has an odd relationship with her sword. I just keep thinking how many years there are between the end of this story and Chronicles of M...

Review: Chronicles of M Trilogy by Nicholas Forristal

Description:
This the first trilogy in the Chronicles of M. It's a series about the worlds only living superhero and the ex-government funded agency that helps him cope with modern day life as he saves us from the unknown and himself. A must read for any fantasy fan who enjoys a little dark humor, a splash of magic and the supernatural.

NOTE: In addition to the 3 books, a section of "behind the scenes" is included that details how many of the main ideas came to be and also included are every book cover, used or not.

My Thoughts:
This is a contemporary fantasy series with magic, zombies, humor, and a bit of sci-fi. Each book has a bit of a different feel to it, even some different characters, but all revolve around the character of M. This edition has all 3 books of the first trilogy together, along with some bonus content. The extras are not listed in the table of contents, but are located right before the book covers. It was fun to get some of the background on certain aspects of the books. Entertaining and fun to read, I highly recommend this series.

My Rating: *****
Steam Factor: !
*Notes: Profanity, blood and gore. Not for the easily offended.

Review: A'loc - Chronicles of M #3 by Nicholas Forristal

A'loc (Chronicles of M, Book 3) by Nicholas Forristal

Description:
A serial killer is on the loose. With no clues, no witnesses and the bodies piling up, the local police call for the only people who can help. What the police don't know is just how full Thomas and M's plate already is. Time is running out. It's been ten months since A'loc showed up and challenged M to a duel to the death.

For him to even have a chance against A'loc, M must learn a lifetime's worth of magic, but Thomas's brother Amit is missing. Without him, M can only hope to learn what Thomas is physically able to show him. M also has to learn how to handle himself in a fight from Mai and discover the extent his mutant powers can go, but how can he do that when he can't even beat her? It's been a long hard road for everyone and it's not even close to over yet.

Amit is the third and last book of the first trilogy in the Chronicles of M.

My Thoughts:
M has been training for his big duel with A'loc. For a break, he gets to track down a serial killer. Quite a bit has changed over the course of the books. the feel is a bit different, and I think this is the funniest. I love M's sarcasm, especially compared to the serious Thomas. Uhler is around quite a bit, spouting random movie quotes. This book has more fighting, more magic, and more laughs. You never know what is going to happen next. With action, magic, humor, and a big dose of crazy, this is a fun read. (If you haven't read the first two, you can check out my reviews for book 1 and book 2.)

Review: Chronicles of M: Ammit by Nicholas Forristal

Chronicles of M: Ammit by Nicholas Forristal

Description:
In this sequel to Chronicles of M, Samuel and Thomas race to find a way to purge the demon that resides in M. The demon takes complete control over M and escapes captivity, leaving Thomas to rely on old acquaintances and new allies to help him hunt down M before he kills again.

My Thoughts:
This is book 2 of the Chronicles of M and picks up right where the first book ends. There is enough information that you could probably get away with not reading the first book, but then you would miss all the fun. If you haven't read it, you can find my review for Book 1 here.
Now, trying my best to avoid spoilers, there are some answers to lingering questions from the first book, and some more history, but even more questions. There are different points of view in the story, and the style is a bit different, but I liked it. The story really moves along and the POV follows the action. And there is plenty of action. We get to see plenty of Dixie, and she is a riot. We get some fun new characters as well. At the end, you will be screaming for the next book. Read this if you like action, fantasy, sci-fi, magic, super powers, mythology, or any combination of those.

My Rating: *****
*Notes: Some profanity, but significantly less than the first book. Not overly graphic.

Author Interview: Nicholas Forristal

I have decided to try my hand at interviewing. Please welcome, for my first interview here at WiLoveBooks, Nicholas Forristal, author of Chronicles of M. (Look for Book 2 in December.)

Describe your ideal writing space. How does it compare to reality?

I really don't have an ideal space for writing. So long as there's coffee and potentially music, or movies to listen to in the background, I'm pretty content with whatever I have to work with. Well....a chair and a table would be nice.

What is the first story you remember writing and what was it about?

There was a couple I wrote for those silly state exams they do in elementary and the beginnings of some stories for some computer games I was writing when I was around that same age...but i really don't remember much about any of them other than they were dwarves and elves type of fantasy. The first REAL story I wrote was for a neverwinter nights server I was putting together from scratch. Keep in mind that the story was mostly built around quests and back story for the players, So, a lot of it was simply "hey, we need you to do this....". The back story for the first city was about this wizard, Mamlin, who had stumbled across this group of refugees that were on the run from a band of goblins. Mamlin ends up agreeing to help them with the goblin horde in exchange for a tower being built, so that he could have somewhere to conduct his experiments  The refugees agree to help, only because they needed to establish a new home and figured they could settle nearby (the goblins destroyed their last town)...anyways all the cities had these sorts of back stories to them. I ended up dropping the project when my computer got a virus and I lost 6 months of work.

Name a memorable book from your childhood. Why is it memorable?

Hunt for Red October - I remember it being a pretty okay book, but also very confused why my 5th grade teacher told me to read his copy of it (I was reading Lord of the Rings at the time).

If you could ask any writer (living or dead) a question, who would it be and what would you ask?

I'd like to ask Isaac Asimov how the heck did he find the time to write so much. haha

If you could pick any of the worlds or characters you have created, which would you want to visit or spend a day with?

Probably Charles Uhler. I'd love to say more, but it would ruin certain aspects of the book for those who haven't read it.

What is one thing you like to do when you are not reading or writing?

Play with my son (he'll be 2 in December) or play my absurdly large collection of video games

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions!

No problem, can I have my pie now?

Review: Chronicles of M by Nicholas Forristal

Chronicles of M by Nicholas Forristal

Description:
An agent to the stars retires. During a bank deposit, a heist goes sideways, resulting in him saving the day. Due to the agent's actions, a mysterious man approaches him with an opportunity. To join an ex-government agency whose purpose is the handling of an unconventional man named "M" as he battles the supernatural. Will he join for the adventure of his life, or will he continue his retirement?

My Thoughts:

I wasn't sure exactly what I was getting into when I started reading, and that was part of the fun. Chronicles of M is from the point of view of Samuel, a 50 year old agent who is retiring after too many years of dealing with spoiled celebrities. Samuel just wants a peaceful retirement but, because of a special talent he has, he ends up being recruited to handle the temperamental M. I enjoyed Samuel's commentary and observations. He is just a regular guy getting mixed up in the the supernatural world he had no idea existed. There are a couple of bonus chapters from the POV of other characters that gives us some of their back story. They were fun because the tone is so different, depending on the character. For example, M's chapter has swearing in at least every other sentence, because that's the way he talks. I enjoyed the writing and the hints dropped along the way made me want to keep reading to find out where the story was going. I definitely want to read the next book.

My Rating: ****
