Paranormal Romance Review: The Dark Vampire by Kate Baxter (Last True Vampire #3)

Description:
The grave threat to the tortured race of vampires is greater than ever in Kate Baxter's THE DARK VAMPIRE. An unforgettable, intensely emotional, and hot series for fans of J.R. Ward, Nalini Singh, Lara Adrian and Larissa Ione.

Centuries ago, the vampire race was almost destroyed. Now, salvation rests upon one - the last true vampire.

For centuries, Jenner has been plagued by the shadows of his past. Now, a newly-turned vampire, he stalks the night like a wild predator, unable to satisfy his insatiable desires. Until a beautiful vampire sets his soul on fire...

Bria is pure innocence, hidden her whole life from a merciless enemy determined to hunt her down. When things become perilous, safety comes in the form of a fearsome bodyguard - Jenner.

One fateful night, Bria is saved by her vampire protector and a blazing connection is sparked. But surrendering to the powerful call of passion means breaking free from the shackles of their pasts. And with the war against the slayers more savage than ever, they must fight to survive. For the vampire race depends on it.

My Thoughts:
If you like the Black Dagger Brotherhood, you'll like this series. I usually like stories about vampires and magic and I have enjoyed each book in this series. Each book is about a different couple, but a larger story runs through all of the books so it makes sense to start with book one, The Last True Vampire. In this book we have Jenner who is a recently turned vampire and he is pretty much out of control. Bria has been sheltered and she is tired of it. She is staying at Mikhail's when Jenner finds her and is tethered. He holds himself back from her because he doesn't feel worthy of her which frustrates her. They have to find a way to make it work. I love characters and hope the books keep coming.

Review: The Warrior Vampire by Kate Baxter

Description:
The vampire was built for sin, every inch of him tight and bulky with corded muscle. A killer, that much was apparent, and she couldn't help but wonder if his appetite for violence would rival his appetites for other...things.

A WOMAN SEDUCED

Naya Morales is no ordinary mortal. Born with a shaman's power, she has devoted her life to tracking down stolen magic—and punishing those who take it. But one fateful night, she follows the alluring call of a sensual magic that is too glorious to be true—and finds herself face to face with a stunningly handsome thief who is too magnificent to resist...

A VAMPIRE ENSLAVED

From the moment he sees her, Ronan knows Naya is his mate. Driven by a deep, almost mystical connection, he aches for her body, hungers for her blood, and swears their souls are anchored together. Naya refuses to believe the words of a vampire—or risk the wrath of her tribe. But when she tries to make Ronan her prisoner, neither chains of silver nor fires of hell can help her escape the truth: she is the one who's been captured...

My Thoughts:
This is the second book in the series. After reading The Last True Vampire, I was looking forward to Ronan's book. They each stand alone just fine, however. I liked Naya. she is a witch who can hear magic. She is part of a male-dominated tribe that is stuck in the past and doesn't have much respect for women. She's going to be mated off so she can have babies with her magical powers. She is fierce and feisty and doesn't like the idea. Then Ronan comes along saying that they are tethered and she is his mate. That doesn't exactly sit well with her. Ronan loves that she is a warrior. This was full of action and steam and even made me smile a few times. Kept me reading. An enjoyable paranormal romance. I look forward to the next in the series.

Review: The Last True Vampire by Kate Baxter

Description:

As Michael’s eyes lit on a female not twenty feet away, he knew without a doubt that it was her blood that called to him and her scent that had awakened him. This female had tethered his soul and returned it to him.

Soul Survivor

He is the last of his race. The one true king of the vampires. Michael Aristov roams the nightclubs of L.A. after dark, haunted by his past and driven by his hunger. The last of the Ancient Ones, he alone has survived the destruction of his race at the hands of the slayers. Now he is forced to hunt and feed like a common vampire, a creature of lust. Nothing in this world can fulfill his needs…until he meets a woman who’s everything he’s ever wanted. And more.

Sweet Salvation

Her name is Claire Thompson. Her blood is so sweet, so intoxicating—the smell alone draws Michael to her like a moth to the flame. Sly, sexy, and seductive, Claire seems to be the only mortal who can satisfy his craving and seal his fate…forever. Can she be trusted? From their very first kiss, the last true vampire sweeps Claire into a world in which darkness rules desire—and where falling in love is the greatest danger of all…

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this. Claire is out to run a con. She's low on money and promises herself she'll go straight after this. Michael is the mark. He wants her blood more than he's ever wanted anything. But she's human. She can't be his tether, can she? The one who returns his soul to him and helps him to be the leader he needs to be. Then she runs off without a trace. I loved Claire. She's very independent. Michael is very old-fashioned, which makes sense considering he is centuries old. It is comical at times. Of course their differences cause problems. But there is more to Claire than meets the eye. This is the first of a series and I can see that there will be more good things to come. I need to read the next book.
