Bad Ex Karma by Donna Cummings - Book Blitz Excerpt and Giveaway

Bad Ex Karma
by Donna Cummings
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Cover Designer:  Carrie Peters at Cheeky Covers
Release Date: June 8, 2016

The dating gods must be crazy.

I'd thought my five-year anniversary would include a fancy dinner, some great sex, and maybe fending off a marriage proposal. Instead, it was the worst sex ever, and at the restaurant, my boyfriend broke up with me.

It's like I've been cursed with Bad Ex Karma. Whenever I try to date a new guy, he ends up with a concussion or a trip to the ER.

My internal "disaster consultants", the What Ifs, completely missed the clues leading to the breakup, so now they're working overtime to protect me from another potential heartbreak. My two best friends set me up on dates while assuring me it won't put men on the endangered species list.

There's one man who seems completely immune to the curse: a sexy chef named Jonathan. He keeps popping up in my life, and he stirs up the most delicious feelings. Maybe Bad Ex Karma isn't such a bad thing after all. . .

When we arrived at Jonathan's place, a lovely old Victorian house just a short drive away, I expected we'd dash inside, like impatient couples in the movies, leaving a trail of clothing behind as we raced to the bedroom.

But I'd forgotten about Jonathan's penchant for taking his time. He helped me out of his car and then kept my hand in his as we walked up the steps to his house. Inside, we stopped for a moment in the living room while he turned on a couple of lamps, giving the room a romantic ambiance.

"Have a seat. Get comfy."

I looked around, enjoying the warm yet cozy surroundings, and saw a leather couch that looked extremely inviting. Still, I chuckled. Men and their leather. I guess it’s a remnant of those long-ago cavemen days. I settled in, letting my shoes drop to the floor before tucking my legs underneath me.

Jonathan loosened his tie, and then took it off entirely, tossing it onto a nearby table. He untucked his shirt and started unbuttoning it, until he saw that I was watching.

"Don't stop now," I teased. "I'm pretty sure I've got a few singles in my purse I can tuck somewhere for a tip."

He laughed and headed into the kitchen. "I'll get us some wine. Anything you prefer?"

"Surprise me."

His appreciative chuckle made me ultra-tingly everywhere again. It was possible that nerves were playing a part here, since I didn't know exactly when we'd be heading to the bedroom. But I wasn't about to get derailed now.

"What’s your favorite wine?" I asked. "And none of this ‘it changes all the time’ stuff."

"I usually go with Cabernet."

"I knew it! Men always go for the big beefy wines."

"Why do you say that?" He ambled into the living room, two goblets in one hand, and a bottle of a very expensive Cab in the other.

I grinned. "It has something to do with size, like it always does."

"That's what you think, huh?" His eyes twinkled as he poured a glass of the most beautiful red wine I'd ever seen and handed it to me. "Well, I happen to like Cabernet because of its complexity. It takes a while to uncover all the layers. It starts with one thing, but then something else comes to the surface. You can spend hours discovering all its secrets."

I gulped. He wasn't just talking about wine, was he?

"Looks like Cabernet might be my favorite now too."

"I thought it might." He leaned down and kissed me, slowly, leisurely, letting me know we had all the time in the world. It was the most hypnotic kiss, the most delicious wine I’d ever tasted. I didn't want either of them to end.

He finally stepped away, setting the bottle and his glass on the coffee table. "I'll be right back."

I heard him moving around in the kitchen, and then it sounded like he was opening and shutting cupboards. The next thing I knew—

"Are you making popcorn?"

"I am."

In a few minutes Jonathan returned with a giant bowl of salted buttery heaven and settled himself next to me.

I couldn't keep from grinning. "Looks like foreplay has changed a lot in the past five years."

"Don't worry." He picked up his wine glass and clinked it against mine. "We'll get you all caught up."

Donna Cummings has worked as an attorney, a winery tasting room manager, and a retail business owner, but nothing beats the thrill of writing humorously-ever-after romance.

She resides in New England but fantasizes about spending the rest of her days in a tropical locale, wearing flip flops year-round, or in Regency London, scandalizing the Ton.

She can usually be found on Twitter talking about writing and coffee, and on Facebook talking about coffee and writing.

Romantic Comedy Review: After the Final Dandelion by Brooke Williams

Description:
After Renee Lockhart appeared on the local TV dating show "Accept this Dandelion" and found the love of her life, she thought she was done with TV. But when she hears that the entire city has bets on how soon she and her fiancĂ© will break up, she is determined to show that their love is meant to last. When Mike, the KETO producer, approaches her about airing the wedding live, she jumps at the chance. Once she is set up with a famous wedding coordinator, plans take a turn for the worse and the simple wedding they wanted becomes the event of the year. In the meantime, Eva Merida is dealing with her own life changing opportunity. Though she’s in love with her boyfriend, who she met on the second season of the dating show, she can’t turn down the chance to investigate a Hollywood TV show when offered a position. When she runs into an old flame, she questions the stability of her current relationship. Will Renee be able to prove her love for Ben to the city before her wedding falls apart? Who will Eva choose on her own emotional roller coaster? Hilarity ensues as the wedding of the decade melts into the disaster of the year. Because everyone knows weeds take over every garden…

My Thoughts:
This was a quick, fun read. Renee and Eva both found their loves on the set of "Accept This Dandelion." The book goes back and forth between the two ladies as Renee is planning her wedding to Ben to air on TV. There are plenty of funny moments and some near-disasters. I think I would have liked this even more if I had read the first two books and had more background on the characters, but it was still enjoyable.

Everlasting by Annette Blair - Release Blitz Excerpt

A Humorous Contemporary Romantic Fantasy
Some people call it Heaven. The residents know it as Everlasting. When you arrive, adjustments have to be made, especially if you were meant to live and the person you saved . . . slated to die.
...What kind of guardian angel gets knocked back to earth? The kind who falls in love with one of his wards.
Chance Godricson is heaven-sent. He's Kenya Kilmartin’s guardian, and when, on arrival, he's hired to get her through a difficult time in her life, he just might fall prey to earthly temptation.

Excerpt

Chance Godricson did not understand why he survived. If he survived.
The next tremor or aftershock might give him his answer.
After walking the mall, searching the rubble, and shouting for anyone to answer, he faced facts. Some kind of structural collapse above the exclusive underground shopping center blocked all exits, paralyzed elevators, and cut the lights.
While lingering in the Yellow Brick Mall shortly after the stores closed, to await his appointment in the office building above, he had, for all intents and purposes, been buried alive. But not for long. He would find a way out or die trying.
A gold and yellow scarf floated across the mall floor like tumbleweed to land at his feet. He grabbed it to bandage the gash in his right hand while seeking the airflow that propelled it.
Ah. A hole in the ceiling near a wall. A structurally sound place to end up.
He began gathering and rolling heavy chunks of broken concrete to build a makeshift stairway. Good enough, he hoped, for one risky climb. Hours later, he thought—examining his work and flexing his aching hand—the unwieldy monster just might get him out.
Yes, those steps could collapse . . . hopefully behind him . . . if he moved fast enough.
“Are you lost, too?” The voice shocked him. Chance shouted as he faced it.
Not a ghost. An angel. Small, breakable looking, but evidently not.
He had not heard her approach. The young woman appeared to have been dipped in honey, and rolled in a thick layer of concrete dust. He probably looked the same. Tear trails marked her cheeks that bore a few small cuts, and still she was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen. “What have you been doing all this time?” he asked.
“Hiding. Expecting another explosion? Waiting to die?” She shrugged. “Except, I didn’t.”
“Why didn’t you answer when I called?” he asked.
“Hands over my ears.” She shuddered and eyed his creation. “Is that supposed to be a stairway?”
“Yes.” It gave him hope, her recognizing it.
She tilted her head. “Why?”
“For our escape.”
She moved the dirt on her face as she swiped at her eyes with the backs of her hands. “From now on, I’m only shopping online.”
“Well, let’s get you home so you can,” he said. “The ‘stairs’ can only take one of us at a time. No hesitating, no looking down or back. Once you take that first step, it’s a sprint. Pretend you have wings and can’t stop. Promise.”
She threw her arms around his neck, her legs around his waist. “I’m not good at leading the way. Not at all good. You go first.”
“I can’t. I’m heavier. I might wreck it. You’re light as a cloud. You go.” With difficulty, he pried her off him. “Go. Now.”
She hesitated, shuddered, and swallowed hard three times. “Once I get there, you’ll follow?”
“What’s your name?” he asked.
“Kenya,” she said.
“So are you ready to live, Kenya?”
“Now, there’s a question.” She kissed his filthy cheek.
He didn’t remember ever feeling both honored and unworthy.
“Who are you?” she asked.
“Nobody,” he said. “Just an unremarkable lawyer.”
“See you at the top, Mr. Nobody.”
“Go.”
She whined as she started but followed his instructions to the letter, a sprint like no other . . . and still, she proved the weakness in his creation. Her inner strength put him to shame as he held the beam nearest the wall, below the highest point of the makeshift stairs. He couldn’t let go until she made it.
“Please let her make it,” he whispered.
He borrowed some of her strength when the beam beneath his hands began to shudder.
As Kenya left the stairs behind her, the last one seeming to disappear from beneath her shoe, she crouched, cradled by crossed steel beams in the darkness between floors, her heart racing as another tremor seemed to wreak havoc in the mall below.
Panic filled her with worry for the man who shared his stairs, until a hand wrapped in a yellow and gold scarf reached for her.
“Hey?” she called, taking that hand with both of hers. “How did you get here before me?”
He pulled her through the darkness to the safety of the outdoors and the dim light of dusk, somehow telling her to live for both of them.
When she thanked him, he was gone.
People surrounded her and wrapped her in blankets, gave her a bottle of water, brought her to the medics.
She never spotted her rescuer among them.
Some people called it Heaven.
The residents knew it as Everlasting.
When you arrived, adjustments needed to be made; it’s not always an easy task, especially when you were meant to live and the person you saved . . . slated to die.
Chance became Kenya’s guardian angel.
A reward?
Or a punishment?

Tapping the Billionaire by Max Monroe - Release Blitz Review and #Giveaway

Description:

Blind dates? Online dating profiles? Been there, done that.

Georgia Cummings has zero luck with dating, and the era of the internet is not her friend.

No matter how fast she runs, how many corners she turns, she can’t find her way out of this weird, alternate universe where men think dick pics are a replacement for small talk and getting to know a girl. One more crotch selfie and she might write men off for good…

But why can’t she stop fantasizing about him?

Kline Brooks is the quintessential billionaire bad boy—dark, styled, short hair, muscles for days, and a panty-dropping smile.

Except—he isn’t.

As his employee, he won’t touch her with a ten foot pole.

But she won’t touch him either.

Too bad their hormones missed the memo.

My Thoughts:
Kline is the owner of a multi-billion dollar company and super is super hot. He is also a really sweet and nice guy, unlike you would expect him to be. Georgia is funny and awkward and sassy. She's good at her job. The company she works for has a dating app called Tap Next, of which she is a member. This leads to some interesting moments, as she starts chatting with a guy that she doesn't know is her boss. I loved this so much. It was a fun read. I spent most of the book with a goofy smile on my face. It was hilariously funny. Will definitely read the next book. Can't wait!

Review: Forever Pucked by Helena Hunting

Description:
Being engaged to Alex Waters, team captain and the highest paid NHL player in the league, is awesome. How could it not be?

In addition to being an amazing hockey player, he’s an incurable romantic with an XL heart, and an XXL hockey stick in his pants. And he knows how to use it. Incredibly, orgasmically well. Alex is the whole package and more. Literally. Like his package is insane. Total world record holder material.

So it makes complete sense that Violet Hall can’t wait to nail him down to the matrimonial mattress and become Mrs. Violet Waters.

It’s so romantic.

Violet is totally stoked to set a date.

Eventually. At some point. Likely before the next millennium. Or when Violet stops getting hives every time someone brings up the wedding, and their mothers stop colluding on stadium sized venues. Whichever comes first.

My Thoughts:
I love this series and this book is the perfect ending for Violet and Alex. They're both ridiculous and adorable. So funny. I loved this. We see more of Sunny and Miller, as well as Lily and Randy. There is plenty to make you wonder about Charlene and Darren. Lance was a bit of a surprise. This book had everything I was hoping for. Of course I hope these books keep coming.

Release Date: 03.22.16

My Thoughts:
A story written by 13 different authors, one chapter at a time.  I loved several of the authors already and was intrigued. If the chapters hadn't had the name of the author who had written it, it would have been hard to tell.  The story flowed easily from one chapter to the next. The story was about Verity and Hudson, who meet in a taxi, which Hudson then steals. He's covered in tattoos and she has him pegged as a felon but then he just starts showing up everywhere. Verity and Hudson were both great characters. I loved the tweets at the end of every chapter. This book is laugh-out loud funny and fun and I couldn't stop reading.  I have some new authors to read.

Review: The Redhead Plays Her Hand by Alice Clayton

Description:
The third sexy novel in USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton’s playful and erotic Redhead series continues the sizzling romance between actress Grace Sheridan and Hollywood’s hottest leading man Jack Hamilton.

Grace has landed the lead in a new TV series—but when the director asks her to lose fifteen pounds, she goes public with her weight struggles and suddenly develops a huge fan club who support her right to have curves. But between that and the public’s continuing fascination with her “are they or aren’t they” relationship with Jack, Grace begins to wonder if anyone’s really interested in her because of her upcoming TV series, or if it’s all speculation about the size of her ass and her bedroom partner.

Meanwhile, Jack is voted the Sexiest Man Alive and becomes a little too enamored with the party-hard lifestyle. Grace vows to give him the space he needs to find himself, but then he begins to spiral down from lovable Brit to Hollywood brat. People are talking, but are Jack and Grace? Her career is on the rise, and his continues into the stratosphere, but will she be able to catch him if he falls? Will they ever be able to just be a couple who can hold hands when they walk down the street?

My Thoughts:
I love this series. Another great book. Grace is starting on her tv series and is told she needs to lose weight. Jack is partying too much and starting to worry the people that care about him. These are just lovable characters with relate-able issues.  They've come so far since the first book. Once again they prove that they can get through anything. Tears. I just loved this one.
