Review: To Lure a Proper Lady by Ashlyn MacNamara

Description:
When Lady Elizabeth Wilde and her sisters are summoned once again to their chronically anxious father’s deathbed, she’s shocked to find that his worries are at last justified. He’s terribly ill, and Lizzie suspects poison. But when she seeks help from the Bow Street Runners, her request is answered by a rough-hewn rogue known only as Dysart. Though his irreverent charm by turns shocks and captivates her, a man of Dysart’s background is an altogether inappropriate choice for a duke’s daughter—isn’t he?

Although Dysart has his reasons to disdain polite society, the promise of supplemental income from a noble’s coffers is too tempting to deny. But if Dysart means to apprehend the culprit who poisoned the duke, he’ll need to avoid any and all distractions—like the delicious swish of Lady Elizabeth’s hips. Yet as the investigation begins to unearth secrets he’d rather remain hidden, Dysart must decide at a moment’s notice whether to hold Elizabeth at arm’s length . . . or pull her dangerously close.
My Thoughts:
Lizzie goes to Bow Street to find someone to help her figure out if her father is being poisoned. She meets Dysart who goes undercover during a house party to help her get answers. There is some mystery surrounding his background. He has some history with some of the party guests. Dysart and Lizzie get close, but Lizzie's father is expecting her to marry her cousin. I enjoyed the mystery. Dysart was a little hard to understand for a while but I liked Lizzie. Lizzie's sisters seem interesting and I would read their stories.

Review: What a Lady Requires by Ashlyn Macnamara

Description:
Perfect for fans of Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, and Sabrina Jeffries, Ashlyn Macnamara’s blazing hot novel tells the story of mismatched newlyweds who discover a simmering connection.
Unlike every other proper young lady, Miss Emma Jennings views marrying well as little more than a means to an end. Such a merger would provide her industrious father with social credibility, and Emma with a chunk of her vast inheritance. Emma’s practical views are shattered, however, when her father ties her to the fabulously handsome ne’er-do-well Rowan Battencliffe, a man she loathes on sight—from the smile that promises all manner of wickedness to the way he ogles her with those striking blue eyes.

Deep in debt, especially to his wine merchant, Rowan figures the sooner he gets his finances in order, the sooner he can go back to doing what he does best: burning through ridiculous sums of cash. Which is why Rowan agrees to marry the merchant’s daughter, a prim and proper woman with delightful curves and an ample dowry. But Emma seems to think it’s her business to reform him! Their marriage is a tinderbox—and it’s just too tempting to resist playing with fire.

My Thoughts:
Finally, Rowan's story. You'll be fine if you haven't read the previous books, but having read them I wondered about him and I really enjoyed this. Emma's father arranges their marriage, as she had known he would. Rowan is not exactly what she was expecting, though. I just loved both of them. She has a head for numbers and investing and wants to teach Rowan to better manage his money. He just wants to find the man who ran off with what he had left. They have a wonderful attraction but there are some obstacles to their happiness. Filled with suspense, steam, and wonderful characters, I enjoyed this book and recommend for all lovers of historical romance.

Review: What a Lady Demands by Ashlyn Macnamara

Description:
Viscount Lindenhurst cannot seem to find a governess who meets his impossible standards—until Cecelia Sanford becomes the first woman to interrupt the widower’s brooding in years. Lind had returned home from the Napoleonic wars, broken in body and soul and longing for his wife’s embrace, only to find her changed. Before they could reconcile, an accident struck their son and claimed her life. Now enter Cecelia, with her soft curves and sharp tongue—a tempting distraction, it is true, but not a welcome one.

Past the usual marrying age and haunted by a scandal of her own, Cecelia soon finds herself caring for both the child and the man. The viscount is brittle and even abrupt at times, yet she cannot deny the attraction that stirs her body in his presence. Moved by the deep sense of abandonment that tortures his soul, Cecelia aches to fully awaken Lind’s heart from its rancorous slumber—if she can just keep their pasts from destroying a second chance at love.

My Thoughts:
Once I started reading, I couldn't stop. Cecilia is an interesting character. She has made some mistakes and is trying to make up for them. She is trying to prove to her brother that she can take care of herself while keeping her past scandal hidden. She is hired as a governess by her brother's old friend Lind who is extremely difficult to work for. Their attraction makes things even more difficult, as does the fact that Lind can't let his past go. I enjoyed this book and I think other fans of steamy historical romance will enjoy it as well.

WHAT A LADY CRAVES on Goodreads

Ashlyn Macnamara weaves a delicious tale of two souls torn apart by circumstance and reunited by fate—perfect for fans of Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, and Sabrina Jeffries.

Henrietta Upperton is about to marry Alexander Sanford when he rushes off to India to salvage his family’s fortune. Then comes the devastating news that he has wed another. Eight agonizing years later, a storm washes Alexander ashore—injured, widowed, and hunted—and one glimpse of his ruggedly handsome face reawakens the desire Henrietta thought she had buried deep inside. Her body still yearns for his touch, but she’s determined not let him wound her again . . . not this time.

For Alexander, honor always comes first. But only now does he realize that when given the choice between two virtuous deeds, he picked the wrong one. On the run with his life in tatters and a pair of daughters in tow, Alexander burns for Henrietta. He knows he does not deserve forgiveness. And yet he longs to wrap his arms around her warm body once again. What’s more, he is sure the lady craves the same.

My Thoughts:
This one is so good. Henrietta was hurt and when she heard that Alexander married someone else India when he was engaged to her. She definitely didn't expect him to turn up suddenly. It just brings everything rushing back. He just wants to continue on like the last eight years never happened, but it's hard to get over having your betrothed run off and marry someone else. Not to mention that he has two daughters now. You can't help but hurt and hope for them both. I loved this and recommend for fans of historical romance.
