Bloodfever by Karen Karie Moning
Description:
I used to be your average, everyday girl but all that changed one night in Dublin when I saw my first Fae, and got dragged into a world of deadly immortals and ancient secrets. . . .
In her fight to stay alive, MacKayla must find the Sinsar Dubh—a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over the worlds of both the Fae and Man. Pursued by assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she can’t trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and powerful men: V’lane, the immortal Fae Prince, and Jericho Barrons, a man as irresistible as he is dangerous.
For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them.
My Thoughts:
Bloodfever is the second book in the Fever series. It was better than the first. I'm still waiting to see what the fuss is all about, but I will keep going. I just don't like the main characters. Mac keeps whining because she wants to wear pretty clothes and Barrons is just a jerk who won't tell her anything unless he wants to.
In the first book, Darkfever, MacKayla Lane, a sun-loving princess-type without a care in the world, leaves her safe home in Georgia to track down her sister's killer in Ireland. She discovers she has talents she never knew about, including the ability to see Fae, and ability that could get her killed.
Bloodfever continues where Darkfever leaves off. Mac is getting irritated by how mysterious Barrons is all the time. Barrons is starting to show some jealousy/ possessiveness toward her, but is still using her to find objects of power. Mac almost gets herself killed. Again. We meet some new characters that should show up more in future books. It is pretty fast-paced and suspenseful. I am actually looking forward to see where things will go from here.
My Rating: ****
Steam Factor: !!
*note: strong language and gore
